take what you need, leave what you can

our mission

The Love Fridge is a Chicago mutual aid group grounded in food, working to place and sustain community refrigerators across the city. We are powered by reciprocity, mutual respect, and the belief that being able to feed yourself is a right, not a privilege. Our goal is to care for our community while working against food apartheid and food waste, alongside other like-minded community groups.

solidarity not charity

Mutual aid is not a form of charity, but a guiding principle for practicing reciprocal and collective care. Mutual aid networks provide a way to meet the basic needs of the community while allowing each other to contribute what we can to the common good. Put simply, we look out for one another in any way that we are able to.

want to get involved?

  • follow the guidelines

Food donations from individuals are crucial for keeping our fridges stocked and our communities nourished. We ask that you follow our food donation guidelines to keep our fridges safe and accessible to all.

  • volunteer your time

We welcome volunteers to assist with the day-to-day operations that make The Love Fridge possible. Become a fridge manager to maintain our fridges, stock fridges by distributing food from our partners, and help with behind the scenes operations.

  • partner with us

We love to collaborate with community partners to feed Chicago together. Current community collaborations include food donations, farm partnerships, and fridge hosts.
